Caroling for seniors 2010Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, Monday, January 16:
School will be closed on Monday, January 16.Students in all grades will study the life and work of Dr. King during the next couple of weeks.


Annual Spelling Bee:
Class Spelling Bees will start next week  for 3rd through 8th grades.  Your child will receive a word list for review.  All students in grades 3rd grade and up will participate in written class spelling bees. Two class champions from each grade will participate in the schoolwide Spelling Bee to be held on January 19.  The  Spelling Bee champion will represent our school at the Regional Bee in late February.

Bake Sale, Friday, Jan. 13, 12 noon: 
The 7th/8th grades will kick off the new year with a Bake Sale this Friday!  Lots of yummy goodies such as lumpia, sushi, pizza, as well as pie, cookies, cupcakes!  Please send money with your child that day.
Family Heritage Celebration, Friday, January 20, 6 p.m.:   Please let us know if you can bring ethnic foods, wear costumes, provide cultural displays, and or provide entertainment to represent your heritage.  Look at the flyer and sign-up sheet here.  Please return to classroom teacher or the office.

Read to Succeed: 
 Students who complete six hours of  reading can earn a free admission ticket to a participating Six Flags Theme Park.  Print your reading log here.  Turn in completed reading logs to classroom teacher.

Gymnastic Classes:  Classes will resume Jan 9-13. Please sign up at the office for the new session ($35 payable to Sparta Gymnastics.)
Lego Club:  The Lego Robotics Club will continue with a new session in January ($35 made payable to Johannes van Galen.) The Simple Machine Lego Club will not continue after December.  However, in its place is a new club called Lego Fun Hour.  It will meet on Mondays from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. Four sessions is $25.  There will be free building with tons of Lego parts and there will be LEGO games (from easy to hard) with friendly competitions between participants.  The start date of this club is tentatively Jan. 9th (pending enough participation.)
Chess Club:  The new session for Chess Club begins on Feb. 1st and goes through June 6th. The fee for the second semester is $25 made payable to the Principled Academy.
Spanish Club and Mandarin Club:  Both clubs will continue in January and current students will be contacted by the instructors about payment.If you would like your child to join these clubs for the first time, please contact the school office.

Jewelry Club and Karaoke with Susan Club:  Both of these clubs will not continue in January due to the schedule of the instructors.

 Hot Dog Lunches:  The 7th and 8th grades thank you for

your continued support of their trip to Washington, D.C., by purchasing hot dog lunches each week.  Hot dog lunches are $3 each and $0.50 for an extra hot dog.  Order online and click here for the Google Docs order form. Click here for the printable version for orders from January – June 2012.
